Organizational Mission
Soroptimist’s mission is to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.
Soroptimist Live Your Dream Campaign
The Live Your Dream campaign inspires women and girls from all walks of life to live their dreams and encourages them to pass on their good fortune to others. Launched in conjunction with International Women's Day, the campaign is commemorated throughout the world on March 8. Soroptimist created the Live Your Dream campaign to raise awareness about challenges that women face and inspire women from all walks of life to realize their full potential.
Raising Awareness
In support of the campaign, Soroptimists around the world distribute Live Your Dream pins. Designed compliments of Linda Joy Goldner of Goldner Communications Design in Philadelphia, the pins feature a female form holding up the sun and come mounted on cards containing information about the campaign, the state of the world's women, and Soroptimist's mission. Wearing the pin demonstrates a commitment to helping women everywhere to live their dreams. In addition, Soroptimist launched www.liveyourdreamcampaign.org—an online community where both Soroptimists members and the general public can go to celebrate women and the power of their dreams. The site showcases fresh content and many exciting features, including monthly contests, a blog written by woman on the quest to live her dream, and a column by a certified life coach.
Significance of March 8
Soroptimist chose to launch the event on March 8 in honor of International Women's Day and Women's History Month (in the United States). Held on March 8 each year, International Women's Day is a time to reflect on the progress made by women, to call for change, and to appreciate acts of courage and determination in pursuit of women's rights. Women's History Month is a month-long celebration in the United States dedicated to recognizing the historic achievements of women.
Helping Women and Girls
Proceeds from the campaign fund Soroptimist programs that enable women and girls to live their dreams and create positive change for themselves and their families. This includes the Women's Opportunity Awards, which provides cash grants to women seeking to improve their economic situation through additional training and/or education. Since 1972, this program has provided about $20 million in cash grants enabling tens of thousands of women to make a better life for themselves and their families. The Live Your Dream campaign inspires women throughout the world to follow their dreams and achieve their goals.
