Soroptimist launches new website
Welcome to Soroptimist’s new website. The goals of this site are two-fold. One is to serve as a resource for the public on issues that matter most to women: sexual trafficking, breast cancer, poverty, education and violence against women, to name a few. The second goal is to serve our members by providing them with a wealth of tools to support their local efforts on behalf of women and girls. We hope you enjoy our site! Soroptimist appeal restores dignity to women with obstetric fistula
Each year on December 10th (United Nations’ Human Rights Day), the Soroptimist International president asks Soroptimists worldwide to contribute to a project that helps women living in extreme poverty. This year’s appeal, Restoring Dignity: Hamlin Fistula Relief and Aid Fund, will support Ethiopian women with this debilitating condition. The goal of this project is to help women with fistulas that cannot be completely cured and need ongoing medical care. The project will assist the women living in a special village where they can receive medical care at rural clinics, as well as training in various skills such as dressmaking, catering, animal husbandry and agriculture to help them to earn an income and become self sufficient. Click here to read the article about obstetric fistula posted on the website and add your comments to the Best for Women blog.
